NFA edges Waterford in boys basketball; Thursday's top plays in high school sports
The Norwich Free Academy boys basketball team edged Waterford, 58-56.
"It's about time we won a close game," Wildcats coach Dave Cornish said.
NFA has won two straight and six of their last nine games to improve to 6-7 on the season.
Here are Thursday's top performers:
Boys basketball
Tony Williams, Norwich Free Academy: Junior guard poured in a game-high 24 points as the Wildcats (6-7) edged Waterford, 58-56.
Eshaad Hernandez, Norwich Free Academy: Junior guard drained a go-ahead 3-pointer with just 45 seconds remaining to lift the Wildcats to a 58-56 victory over Waterford (5-10).
Armanee Davis, Camron Barboza, and Kody Jamieson, Norwich Free Academy: Wildcats trio netted seven points apiece in a win against Waterford. Braboza also had five steals, including a late steal to seal the victory.

Girls basketball
Kierra Nielson, Griswold: Sophomore forward posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds but the Wolverines (3-8) fell short, 38-36, against Plainfield (7-7).
Gymnastics
Brenna Johnson, Plainfield: Panthers junior finished second in the All-Around (36.4) in a meet with Woodstock Academy, Stonington, and Killingly.
Ella Pereira, Killingly: Freshman placed first on bars (9.3) in a meet with Woodstock Academy and Stonington.
