In 2022, the Chiefs were the first team in NFL history to open a season with eight straight games against teams that had a winning record the previous year.

The Chiefs will face another historically tough stretch in the 2023 season, but this time it’ll be on the back half of the schedule.

NFL analyst Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis wrote on Twitter that from Weeks 12 to 17, every opponent the Chiefs face will have more rest than Kansas City.

“I researched back 35 years, (and that’s) never happened before,” Sharp wrote.

Sharp added this on his website: “The Chiefs were hurt the most by the 2023 NFL schedule when considering every rest and prep variable.”

Here’s how that stretch of games works out in terms of rest.

Nov. 26: at Raiders

The Chiefs will be coming off a “Monday Night Football” game against the Eagles, so Las Vegas will have an extra day of rest.

Dec. 3: at Packers

Green Bay will be coming off a Thanksgiving Day game and will have three extra days of rest

Dec. 10: Bills

Buffalo will come to GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium after their bye week, so that’s an extra week to rest.

Dec. 18: at Patriots

New England will be back home after a so-called “mini-bye” after playing Pittsburgh on “Thursday Night Football

Dec. 25: Raiders

Las Vegas will come to KC after also playing on “Thursday Night Football” the week before.

Dec. 31: Bengals

Cincinnati plays the Steelers on a Saturday the previous week, while the Chiefs will be coming off the Christmas day game on a Monday.

“It would be one thing to have the third-worst net rest edge in the NFL,” Sharp wrote about the Chiefs. “But for there to be six games in a row where they are dealing with (most often) multiple days rest disadvantage, and for them to come late in the season as they do, will be extremely challenging on the Chiefs.

“The Chiefs will be -20 (days) in net rest from Week 12 through the end of the season.”

This is something to keep in mind when the Chiefs finish the season with a game against the Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
