NFL-Cardinals agree lucrative contract deal with CB Peterson

July 29 (Reuters) - The Arizona Cardinals will make Patrick Peterson the highest paid cornerback in the NFL after the two sides agreed on a lucrative contract extension on Tuesday. The Pro-Bowl defender Peterson signed a five-year deal worth $70 million with $48 million guaranteed, he announced via Twitter. The contract value surpasses recent deals by Cleveland's Joe Haden (five years, $68 million) and Seattle's Richard Sherman (four years, $56 million), two of the premier cornerbacks in the league. The 24-year-old Peterson has made three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances and proven to be a dangerous punt returner since joining Arizona in 2011. His presence has also helped the Cardinals become a playoff contender in the NFC, with their 10-6 record last season putting them within one place of a post-season berth.
