At the height of the joint-practice brawl between the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald could be seen swinging Bengals helmets at opposing players as he was pushed to the ground.
The Rams did not make Donald available after the practice, and Donald hadn't been expected to play Saturday in the preseason finale between the teams. But Donald's actions were compared by many on social media to those of Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett, who was suspended indefinitely for removing Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph's helmet and hitting Rudolph in the head with it during a game in Nov. 2019. Garrett missed the final six games of the season.
Reactions: Bengals, Rams scuffle; Collins throws Floyd's helmet
Watch: Burrow throws deep ball to Chase before first fight
Some suggested via Twitter that the only difference between what Garrett did in 2019 and what Donald did Thursday was Donald did it in practice, not a game. Donald could avoid discipline from the NFL because the teams are responsible for oversight of joint practices.
Twitter reactions:
A reminder: Myles Garrett was indefinitely suspended by the NFL following his helmet-swinging incident. Garrett missed the final six games of the 2019 season before the NFL reinstated him in February 2020.

Myles Garrett missed the final 6 games of the 2019 season as part of an indefinite suspension for swinging a helmet during a game. The NFL has not been in the business of policing joint practices the way they do games, but that's the only difference from Aaron Donald today.

seems to happen with him a ton
if Myles Garrett got an indefinite suspension for swinging Rudolph's helmet (which ultimately became 6 games)...
the NFL should be suspending Aaron Donald for some amount of time IMO because this is absolutely recklesshttps://t.co/fDOc4YEKEE— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) August 25, 2022
Indefinite suspension has to he coming for Aaron Donald, right? https://t.co/OU35YZlw6r

As it unfolded, the most surprising thing was the helmet swinging from Aaron Donald. It’s what looked the most dangerous and helped it go from a one-on-one thing to an entire team thing.
