Before Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback, the Chiefs had appeared in just one AFC Championship Game in their history.

With a win at Buffalo in Sunday’s AFC Divisional round game, Mahomes and the Chiefs will advance to the AFC title game for the sixth straight time. The NFL noted that would break a tie with the Oakland Raiders for the second-longest streak in NFL history.

The Raiders’ streak was from 1973-77. The NFL record is held by the New England Patriots (eight consecutive seasons from 2011-18).

Here are other milestones in reach Sunday for the Chiefs, via the NFL.

Mahomes climbing

If the Chiefs beat the Bills, it would be Mahomes’ 13th postseason victory. That would tie him with former Steelers quarterback and Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre for the sixth-most playoff victories by a quarterback.

Tom Brady (35) has the most in NFL history, followed by Joe Montana and Peyton Manning (16 each). Tied for fourth-most are Terry Bradshaw, John Elway and Peyton Manning (14 each).

Kelce on two lists

Tight end Travis Kelce carries a pair of notable postseason streaks into Sunday’s game. He’s had 11 straight games with at least five receptions and 10 consecutive games with 50 or more receiving yards.

Former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman had 50 receiving yards in 13 straight playoff contests, the most in NFL history. Kelce is tied for second for second most all-time with Gary Clark (Washington, Jan. 10, 1988 – Jan. 9, 1993) and Julio Jones (Atlanta/Tennessee/Tampa Bay, Jan. 8, 2012 – Jan. 16, 2023).

Kelce, who had seven receptions for 71 yards against Miami, will go for his 12th straight game Sunday.

Edelman also holds the record for the most consecutive playoff games with at least five catches. He did it from Jan. 11, 2014 to Feb. 3, 2019, a stretch of 13 straight games. Kelce is second with 11 (Feb. 2, 2020 to Jan. 13, 2024).

Jerry Rice and Wes Welker are third on the list with 10.

Big Red going for 11

The Chiefs’ Andy Reid enters Sunday’s game tied with former Cowboys coach Tom Landry for the second-most conference championship games coached. They both have coached in 10, with Reid making five appearances each with the Eagles and the Chiefs.

If the Chiefs win Sunday and advance to their AFC title game, it’ll be Reid’s 11th trip. Only former Patriots coach Bill Belichick has more (13).
