Attorneys for NFL quarterback and Austin native Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, have filed a petition in Travis County against an investment group where Mayfield’s father and brother work, alleging the possible misappropriation of $12 million from their personal accounts, according to court documents filed Tuesday.

“From January 2018 through the present, more than $12 million was transferred from Petitioners' personal account(s) and routed through various entities and investments,” the petition says. “Petitioners have been unable to account for, or obtain information about, the current location and/or status of those funds.”

The petition, which was filed in the 250th District Court in Travis County, requests permission to “depose and obtain critical documentation from Camwood Group, Camwood Ventures, TCMG, Unitech, Apex, and Lor-Van,” the court filing says, noting that it is too early to know whether a lawsuit is likely or expected.

TCMG is a subsidiary of the Camwood Group, and Unitech, Apex and Lor-Van are subsidiaries of TCMG, the petition says.

“A substantial sum of Petitioners' assets were transferred out of Petitioners' personal accounts to TCMG, potentially at the direction and supervision of Camwood Group and/or Camwood Ventures, and were used by TCMG to fund certain investments, make certain acquisitions, or to fund certain loans,” the petition alleges.

Mayfield’s father, James, and his brother, Matt, work at the Camwood Group, which is based in Austin.

Attorneys representing Baker and Emily Mayfield were not immediately available for comment, nor was James Mayfield.

Baker Mayfield led Lake Travis High School to the Class 4A Division I state championship in 2011 before graduating in 2013. He was a three-star recruit who initially went to Texas Tech before landing at Oklahoma. Mayfield won the Heisman Trophy with the Sooners in 2017 and was picked No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL draft.

He spent the first four years of his career in Cleveland and played last season for the Carolina Panthers and the Los Angeles Rams. This offseason, Mayfield signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and he is currently competing with Kyle Trask for the starting quarterback job replacing the retired Tom Brady.
