NH election 2022: Ruth Larson announces bid for NH Senate District 6

I am Ruth Larson, of Alton, running for New Hampshire Senate District 6.  Alton, Gilmanton, Farmington, New Durham, Rochester, and Strafford deserve legislation for the greater good.  I believe it’s important to protect our local schools, reproductive rights, and the environment.  We must address increased housing costs and the daycare crisis to grow a healthy workforce. Just as importantly, our LGBTQ+ friends and family members are under attack.

These competing themes are all connected with one resounding theme of the need for empathy and caring among us. It’s time for us to come together as individuals and as community members supporting each other.

The current state system funding our local schools is fundamentally failing, levying an unsustainable burden on local taxpayers. Property taxes continue to increase, and the ill-conceived private school voucher program is making it worse.  Access to quality education is essential to future workforces and a strong democracy.

Reproductive health is under attack in New Hampshire.  When I am elected, I will sponsor legislation and consistently vote to protect these essential health and human rights.

We need to unite to address the problems of climate change. New Hampshire’s waters deserve protection if we want our tourism and seafood industries to thrive. Clean water sources are also essential to our kids’ health and to decreasing cancer rates. Politicians who disregard environmental science are neglecting all of us.  Our future generations deserve better.
