NH Lottery reports $8.5M in wagers for NFL opening weekend

Sep. 16—Sports betting is off to a strong start in New Hampshire this football season, according to the New Hampshire Lottery.

The NFL opening weekend brought in $8.5 million in wagers, surpassing last year's $7.2 million on opening weekend, according to a news release.

So far this football season, New Hampshire players have placed more than 300,000 wagers on NFL and NCAA football.

Also this football season, the lottery will offer both a $5 Go Pats! scratch ticket featuring a top prize of $100,000 on sale at more than 1,200 retail locations statewide, and a Go Pats! e-instant game available online, featuring a $25,000 top prize. The lottery has partnered with the New England Patriots since 2012, but this is the first e-instant game being offered, according to the release.

"The NFL and NCAA football are our biggest sports betting drivers, making major impacts on our ongoing effort to maximize funding for education," Charlie McIntyre, executive director of the lottery, said in a statement.

Sports wagering surpassed $861 million in fiscal year 2022, which reflects more than 65% year-over-year growth in total wagering, according to the release.
