NHL Live Stream: How to Watch the 2022-23 Hockey Season Online

The 2022-2023 NHL season is here, with 32 teams battling it out on the ice for a chance to play for the 2022 Stanley Cup.

Heading into the new season, the reigning champion Colorado Avalanche is looking just as strong as they did last season when they took down Tampa Bay, making them the favorite to win again at this year’s playoffs. But oddsmakers’ second pick to win the Stanley Cup is the Toronto Maple Leafs — a more surprising pick given they haven’t won a championship in 54 seasons, and certainly a team to follow this season.

More from Rolling Stone

Behind the Avalanche and the Maple Leafs in odds for the Stanley Cup are the Florida Panthers and the Carolina Hurricanes. But, as with last year, upsets are almost a guarantee in the 2023 NHL Playoffs.

With the new season approaching, it’s time to dial-in your streaming service lineup to get the most NHL action possible. Read on for our complete guide on how to watch the NHL live online during the 2022-23 season.

A number of games this year will be available on basic cable, with NHL hockey on ABC and your local regional sports networks (RSN). If you have a decent TV antenna (like this one from Amazon) you’ll be able to use your TV to watch live hockey broadcasts on your local ABC affiliate. Some regional sports networks will also be airing local games, which you may be able to pick up with just a decent digital antenna.

In addition to ABC, NHL games will be airing on ESPN, ESPN Plus TNT and TBS. For those networks, you’ll need a cable package (like this one from Verizon), which will let you watch hockey games live on TV.

How to Stream NHL Games Free Online

Prefer to cut the cord? Here’s how to stream the NHL from home without cable, from your TV, computer, tablet, or phone. All of these streaming services are currently offering free trials too, so you can start streaming hockey for free online.

1. Stream Hockey on Sling

Sling is one of the easiest live TV streamers to get into. The Sling Orange package includes access to ESPN, TBS and TNT and USA Network to stream hockey live online. Add on the “Sports Extra” package for an additional $10 to get the NHL Network (along with NBA TV, MLB Network, Golf Channel, Tennis Channel, and more).

Sling costs $35 a month (without the $10 Sports Extra add-on), but right now you can get your first month for $17.50.

2. Stream Hockey on ESPN+

One of the best ways to stream the NHL online is through ESPN+, which has become a must-have for hockey fans. A monthly subscription costs just $9.99 a month and lets you live stream hockey online through the ESPN+ app, website or on your connected TV. You can also spring for the ESPN+ Annual Plan, at a price of $69.99 (a 15% savings versus paying month to month).

The best way to get ESPN+, however, is through the Disney Bundle. For $13.99 a month, the Disney Bundle gets you ESPN+, Disney+, and Hulu, saving around $11 compared to getting the latter two separately from your ESPN+ membership.
