NHL-National Hockey League roundup

April 9 (The Sports Xchange) - Defenseman Kris Letang was back in action for the Pittsburgh Penguins at Detroit on Wednesday more than two months after suffering a stroke. Letang had not played a game in 10 weeks --since Jan. 27 against the Buffalo Sabres. He was cleared medically last week and the Penguins left it up to Letang when he would return. General manager Ray Shero said hockey "did not cause the stroke," but doctors did find a small hole in Letang's heart. It is not certain that condition caused the incident, Shero said. Letang, 26, has 18 points in 34 games this season. - - - The Vancouver Canucks hired Trevor Linden on Wednesday as president of hockey operations, one day after firing former president and general manager Mike Gillis. Linden returns to lead the team that he played on for 16 seasons, including seven as team captain. In his role, Linden will be responsible for all hockey operations, including the coaching and scouting staffs, player procurement and development, and minor league affiliations and operations. - - - The Tampa Bay Lightning recalled goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis from Syracuse of the American Hockey League, the team announced Wednesday. Gudlevskis, 21, has appeared in 34 games with Syracuse this season, posting a record of 18-11-4 to go along with a 2.68 goals-against average and .901 save percentage. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
