Actress Nia Long is sharing her outrage over the use of a racial slur at her son’s school events. The actress says the school failed to censor the “N-word” in a song played during a dance recital. The incident occurred at 11-year old son’s school.
“What is this world coming to? I attended my son’s school for a dance recital, and a song was played featuring the n-word. Somebody has some explaining to do. I will not sit in silence. I will not tolerate perpetual gaslighting,” she tweeted.

It remains unclear what song caused the actress to become upset; however, fans rallied behind Long’s outrage.
It's amazing how many people see that as normal nowadays.
It's weird. My parents and most of my frienfriends' parents growing up taught us that that word was the worst word in the world.

A Devoted Mother
Long is a devoted mother of two – Massai Zhivago Dorsey II, 22, and Kez Sunday Udoka, 11. She has often spoken about how much she loves being a mom of two sons. On Mother’s Day, the “Love Jones” actress posted a heartfelt message about motherhood in an Instagram post. She shares Kez with her ex-fiancé, Ime Udoka. The couple were together for thirteen years before splitting last December. The relationship ended due to Udoka’s cheating scandal with a Boston Celtics staffer. Long also shares her oldest son, Massai, with actor Massai Z. Dorsey.
Burial Ceremony for the Slur
The use of the “N-word” in Hip-Hop has sparked debates for years. Some artists and fans have suggested the slur no longer be used, while others state that Black culture has flipped the negative connotation.
In 2007, the NAACP held a burial ceremony in downtown Detroit for the derogatory term that dates back to slavery. According to NBC News, hundreds cheered on during the burial ceremony. Delegates across the country marched through the city while two horses pulled a pine box adorned with fake Black roses. The coffin was placed at the Detroit Memorial Park Cemetery and had a headstone.
