Nicholas Trucking unveils clean propane vehicles

Oct. 24—COURTDALE

Trucking company adds clean vehiclesA Luzerne County-based trucking company received state funding to add three near-zero emission vehicles to its fleet.

Nicholas Trucking of Courtdale was awarded $93,000 through the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection's Driving PA Forward program to purchase three Ford F-750 propane vehicles.

Nicholas Trucking cites the rising cost of diesel fuel as one of the major catalysts for the company's move to propane vehicles. The company is saving more than 53% on fuel costs and will get 37 cents per gallon in additional savings through the federal alternative fuel tax credit.

The new trucks are also 90% cleaner than the Environmental Protection Agency's most stringent emission standard.
