Nichols named to Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List

HOPEWELL, N.J. – Western Illinois women's basketball's Danni Nichols has been named to the Mid-Season Watch List for the 2022 Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year award, it was announced on Wednesday (Jan. 19).

Nichols joins 14 other athletes on the watch list, which currently includes players from schools such as BYU, Murray State and Princeton, along with Chloe Lamb of South Dakota.

Nichols is having a career year in her fifth season as a Leatherneck. She's currently averaging a team-leading 17.9 points per game, shooting 54.5% from the field and over 70% from the line, while grabbing 4.8 rebounds and dishing out over two assists per contest. A native of Columbia, Mo., Nichols was named Summit League Player of the Week on Dec. 6, her first time earning the award.
