Nick Kakanuru wins Wooster spelling bee, advances to Wayne County spelldown

The Wooster City Schools spelling bee was held on Dec. 9 at Wooster High School with 13 participating students ranging from sixth to eighth grades.

Battling for the win were Nick Kakanuru and Noah Greene. The overall winner was Kakanuru, eighth grader at Wooster High School, with "misericords," a word with dual spelling possibilities: misericords or misericordes.

The runner-up was Noah Greene, a sixth grader at Edgewood Middle School, who correctly spelled the word "pell-mell." Third place was Edgewood’s Elijah (Eli) Dean who correctly spelled, "reenactment."

Tied for fourth place were Edgewood students Joel French and Delaney Hoffman.

Kakanuru and Greene will advance to the Wayne County spelling bee to be held at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 24 at Orrville High School.
