In just a few weeks, Alabama football coach Nick Saban is set to kick off another year of his radio show.

He will likely take questions from the host and the media guest, as well as fans on the phone and in attendance at the restaurant. That's what he always does.

Saban was asked after practice Wednesday why he continues to take part in the radio show the way he does when he could decide not to take questions.

"Well, I think that most of you all, including the person asking the question, sort of think I’m not approachable, and I don’t think that’s the case at all," Saban said. "So one of the things that I’ve always found the radio show to give me an opportunity to do is to allow people to approach me and see how approachable I am."

And he does so while fielding a wide variety of questions.

"And sometimes you get a bad call, but sometimes we deserve a bad call," Saban said. "Sometimes I don’t think we did very well either. So why should somebody out there not think we did something very well? I’m not offended by people who call in. I think it’s an opportunity for them to approach me and for me to have respect for them and how they support the program."

Saban also views it as a good opportunity to get to know the media guests, who ranged from ESPN's Holly Rowe to CBS' Brad Nessler in 2021. He said he gets to see a different side of them and they get to see a different side of him.

"So I think it’s nothing but sort of an opportunity to build positive relationships," Saban said.
