Nicki Minaj, Remy Ma Echo Same Message After Prodigy’s Death

Despite currently having a nasty feud with each other, Nicki Minaj and Remy Ma are in unison when it comes to expressing their shock upon learning about Prodigy’s demise. The two female MCs took to social media to pay tribute to the late Mobb Deep member.

On Tuesday, Minaj uploaded a picture of Albert “Prodigy” Johnson on her Instagram account and noted in the caption that she still does not to want “to believe he’s gone.” The Young Money artist then wrote, “RIP [Prodigy of Mobb Deep],” who for her was the finest rapper from Queens, New York.

Remy Ma also did the same thing a few hours later. She posted a snap of Prodigy on her Instagram and voiced out her shock that the 42-year-old artist has passed away. “Just saw P at SummerJam & now today he’s no longer here, smh,” she said.

Papoose’s wife then shared how the late rapper influenced her, saying, “I’ve known this man since I was a kid; remember breaking nights sitting in my car on Roosevelt Island smoking & spitting a thousand bars (good memories).”

Prodigy was reportedly found unconscious on Tuesday morning while he was in a Las Vegas hospital. In a statement to XXL, Mobb Deep’s publicist announced the sudden death of the rapper and thanked fans for respecting the privacy of Prodigy’s family.

“It is with extreme sadness and disbelief that we confirm the death of our dear friend Albert Johnson, better known to millions of fans as Prodigy of legendary NY rap duo Mobb Depp,” the publicist stated. “Prodigy was hospitalized a few days ago in Vegas after a Mobb Deep performance for complications caused by a sickle cell anemia crisis.”

The duo’s publicist then pointed out that while Prodigy had been battling sickle cell anemia since birth, it still remains unknown whether this was what really caused his demise. “The exact causes of death have yet to be determined,” the publicist wrote.

Prior to his passing, Prodigy performed with his Mobb Deep partner Havoc at the Art of Rap tour alongside Ghostface Killa, Onyx, KRS-One, Ice-T and many others last Saturday, as first reported by Huffington Post.
