Nicole Kidman Donates $100K for Hugh Jackman's Music Man Hat

Following the Saturday night performance of The Music Man, the cast held a fundraiser for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Up for auction included the hat that Hugh Jackman wears in the revival—and Nicole Kidman bid $100,000 to own it.

Jackman shared the moment on his Twitter:

"I just want to be clear this is not Australian dollars," he joked. As Kidman comes to the stage, she says, "I love you, I love Broadway. I love what they do, Broadway Cares. But I also want to say the show was extraordinary." The show's child actors can be seen jumping around on stage in excitement behind Jackman.

Kidman then takes the hat, puts it on, and walks back to her seat.

"I've known Nic for almost 30 years," Jackman then says, "I've worked with her, I can tell you this is not a surprise. She is one of the most generous souls I know. You're a beautiful, beautiful person. Thank you for your generosity."

Later, Jackman also posted on Instagram:

On which Kidman commented, "Darling Hugh, To my friend of 30 years Right back at you such a generous gorgeous man, it was a brilliant night in the theatre and an honor to be able to donate to @bcefa! + Congratulations to the talented cast…"

Broadway Cares later confirmed the generous donation, saying in a statement, "Broadway Cares is blessed with friends across Broadway. But we have no greater champion than Hugh Jackman. This extraordinary gift from his pal Nicole Kidman is by far the largest donation for any one auction item ever. There is much for which to be grateful this Thanksgiving weekend."

Her donation of $100,000, the organization wrote on Instagram, will be very impactful. "That’s 20,000 meals and 2,000 doctor visits this holiday season for those living with HIV/AIDS, struggling with COVID-19 or facing other life-threatening challenges."

The Music Man is set to end its 11-month run in January 2023.
