From her stellar style to her witty one liners, Nicole Richie is an icon to say the least.
The House of Harlow 1960 designer recently caught up with AOL in New York City at the launch of her Capsule Chix collection to weigh in on some of her most epic Instagrams.
On #NationalBFFDay, Nicole shared a photo back from 2004 of her and Mariah Carey hanging out at Sean 'Diddy' Combs' surprise 35th birthday party. Of course, the semi-sarcastic photo garnered nearly 100K likes and hundreds of comments.
"This is a photo of me and my best friend Mariah Carey. You may not know that we are best friends, and maybe she doesn't either, but I know. That's all that matters," Nicole joked to AOL.
In addition to explaining her most candid photos (like her pet bearded dragon or embracing her natural hair), the 37-year-old mom also explained the importance of self-expression in collaboration, Capsule Chix -- a collection of dolls she created 13 custom looks that exemplify her own unique sense of style and creativity.
"I know for me, there's not one version of the way that I dress. Sometimes I'm feeling really feminine, another time I'l just want to be in leather pants and a t-shirt. So I think that the dolls definitely reflect that in the sense that I do think that women, especially today, don't just dress one way. I'm definitely an emotional dresser. It's all about what kind of vibe I'm feeling," Nicole explained off-camera.
"I think the days of adults handing kids one version of a doll and saying 'this is what beautiful is, this is what you should look up too, and this is what you should play with,' -- that idea is kind of antiquated. This is encouraging kids to really decide to them what's beautiful instead of having that template of what a doll should look like. It helps [kids] tap into their creativity and really puts them in a position of authority when they are growing up and deciding what's beautiful to them."
