Nigel to soon become a hurricane, Tracking two other areas: Tropics Update Sun 10p 9-17-2023

Meteorologist Grant Skinner gives an update on the tropical activity in the Atlantic Basin. The News 5 First Alert Storm Team is tracking one named storm: Tropical Storm Nigel. Nigel is moving to the northwest and is strengthening. It is expected to become a hurricane soon, and it could become a major hurricane by the middle of this week. It is expected to eventually move to the north and then quickly to the northeast where it will quickly weaken. This storm is not expected to impact the Gulf Coast or the United States. There is one area to watch in the eastern Atlantic as a tropical wave is set to move off the west coast of Africa. It has a medium chance of development over the next seven days, and it will be something as it pushes west. As of now, it does not pose a threat to the Gulf Coast or United States. Another area is in the western Atlantic as an area of low pressure could develop some subtropical characteristics off the southeast coast of the United States.
