Nigella Lawson jokingly reveals her drag name and fans are loving it
The TV chef was presenting her traditional festive cooking show, this year from Amsterdam
What Did You Miss?
TV chef Nigella Lawson surprised BBC fans on Thursday (21 December) by revealing her "drag name". Halfway through making some traditional spiced biscuits — Speculaas, also known as Windmill cookies — on her latest festive special Nigella's Amsterdam Christmas, she paused to look at the camera and jokingly referred to herself as 'Fat Patty'.
As you'd expect, this summoned all sorts of reactions on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
What, how and why?
"My Speculaas dough has rested, as have I," said Lawson. "So before I roll it out, I'm going to give this slab a bit of a dusting with my magic wand, or perhaps it's a bit more of a seasonal sceptre.
"Let's unwrap this fat patty – my Drag name," she then casually quipped before moving on.
Howling with laughter at what just came out of her mouth, one viewer wrote: "Absolutely lol-ing at @Nigella_Lawson informing us of her drag name Fat Patty gloriously camp," while a second added: "Well if @Nigella_Lawson wasn't already my Queen of Christmas! Loved her Amsterdam Christmas and Fat Patty is one hell of a drag name."
"When she said 'Let's unwrap this fat patty' then looked directly at the camera and said 'My drag name' - I COULD NOT LOVE HER MORE!", "Nut bashing, oiled receptacles and 'Fat Patty'... this is #Nigella at her absolute best!", "Nigella's drag name being fat patty just made my year" and "OMG did Nigella just say Fat Patty was her drag name??? I could not love her more," read four more messages.
What else happened on Nigella's Amsterdam Christmas?
Further along the cook's Speculaas segment, Lawson explained why the dough was "rather lovely to roll out. It's very pliable and also very forgiving, so if it cracks you can just stick it back together, you can re-roll," she revealed.
"Traditionally, Speculaas biscuits aren't rolled out and then cut out, but they are pressed onto a wooden mould. The whole idea makes me hyperventilate because I know I wouldn't get the dough out."
