Insomnia Cookies, the rapidly expanding late-night bakery franchise, opened its first South Dakota location in Brookings this week.

The new store is located at 1809 6th Street in Brookings, southeast of South Dakota State University's campus in the Village Square Mall.

The menu features a rotating menu with options such as the classic chocolate chuck cookie, snickerdoodles and the confetti deluxe cookie, all of which can be served with Prairie Farms ice cream on top. There are also multiple vegan options.

Insomnia Cookies is holding an all-day grand opening event with freebies, treats and more from noon Saturday to 3 a.m. Sunday. A PJ party starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, and the first 50 people in line dressed in their pajamas will receive a free t-shirt.

Loyalty members who visit the new store will also receive a free classic cookie, no purchase required.

Regular hours are noon to 1 a.m. Sunday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. Thursday and Friday, and noon to 3 a.m. Saturday.

Insomnia Cookies was founded in Philadelphia in 2003 by then-university student Seth Berkowitz. Today, the company has more than 225 locations nationwide.
