It’s crazy to think that 2022 is almost over. Where did all the time go? With the holiday season steadily approaching, the festivities will be ramping up until the ball drops on New Year's Eve. This means that live music around Providence will be going strong, despite the drop in temperatures and the weather being a bit more unpredictable. To be in the know on where to go, here are five shows that deserve your undivided attention in November, including a four-day anniversary celebration by one of the city's best music venues and a multi-instrument tour de force by MorganEve Swain.
Ray LaMontagne's 'Monovision' Tour
Where: Providence Performing Arts Center, 220 Weybosset St.

As part of his tour in support of his eighth studio album, "Monovision," which came out during the summer of 2020, Nashua, New Hampshire, native Ray LaMontagne will be bringing his soulful way of songwriting. Along with the hits off the album, which include “I Was Born To Love You” and “Strong Enough,” LaMontagne will also be going through various material from an excellent career that has spanned nearly 25 years. Former "America’s Got Talent" contestant Lily Meola will be opening up the show.

The Parlour’s 10-year anniversary celebration
Where: The Parlour, 1119 N. Main St.

I know I usually pick one show at a time with this list, but when it comes to a four-day celebration of one of the best music venues in Providence, then I have to include them all. The Parlour will ring in a decade of being a vital staple of the city’s music scene, with Friday kicking it all off with the family-friendly PVD Shanty Sing, hosted by Sharks Come Cruisin’ from 6 to 9 p.m., followed by a bunch of local bands such as The Z-Boys, Sgt. Baker & The Clones, Mark Cutler & The Men Of Great Courage, and Sourpunch, among others, closing out the evening. Saturday is going to be a full night of music running from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., with Artist Jackie & The Wizard, The Quahogs, Space Junk Is Forever, Consuelo’s Revenge, Viking Jesus and the Artist Named Flizz being just a few of the many acts performing. Sunday will be a full-day party, starting at 1 p.m. with a ridiculous number of bands and musicians taking the stage, while Monday closes it out with a special edition of the Foundation Mondays reggae showcase. The Huntress and Holder Of Hands

Ever since I saw her perform with her husband, Dave Lamb, as the folk duo Brown Bird at an abandoned pasta sauce factory in Central Falls more than a decade ago, I’ve been a fan of MorganEve Swain’s music. Her current project employs an arsenal of string instruments, including a cello, bowed string base, electric bass, five-string viola and guitar, along with drums to create dynamic sounds rooted in gothic Americana. Portland, Maine, alt-folk act Dead Gowns are going to be starting the night off.

The Smile

One of the most interesting musical projects of the last couple of years has been The Smile, which consists of Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood from the alt-rock icons Radiohead, and Tom Skinner, the former drummer for the avant-garde jazz act Sons Of Kemet. Their debut album, “A Light For Attracting Attention,” which came out in May, garnered universal acclaim while climbing the charts all over the world. It should be interesting to see how this trio exhibits their blend of post-punk, progressive rock, Afrobeat and electronica on stage.

The Agents

Ever since the late 1990s, The Agents have been a ska staple in Providence and all around the Ocean State. Their upcoming show will have them performing two sets, which will be the perfect way to burn some calories after Thanksgiving and to relax after the capitalist miasma of Black Friday. They have a very rich sound that’s going to make you move, so expect to do some dancing.
