Two vehicles were struck by bullets early Monday morning at the Florida Institute of Technology's Southgate Village Apartments, Melbourne Police Lt. John Chapman said.

The Southgate Village Apartments are a multi-building complex of studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments off Babcock Street, across the street from campus north of University Boulevard.

The gunfire was reported about 3:40 a.m. Monday in Southgate's surrounding area, according to a Florida Tech emergency alert email sent to the university community.

No injuries were reported, and no suspects have been identified, the email said. Melbourne police and Florida Tech's security department responded to the incident, and Chapman said the investigation remains ongoing.

Completed in February 2020, artist Christopher Maslow's three-story panther mural adorns a south-facing wall of the Southgate Village Apartments, overlooking the intramural sports field.
