A night under the sea and the big top: Check out the Shreveport Mardi Gras bals you missed
Another Mardi Gras weekend has come and gone in the Shreveport-Bossier area and two prominent Krewes have thrown their most lavish parties yet.
The Krewe of Elder's Grand Bal XXV was on Friday, Jan. 27 at the Shreveport American Legion Post with the theme "Ocean Commotion." The venue was filled to the gills with oceanic decor with the krewe and royalty decked out in their under-the-sea best.
The Krewe of Elders is a local krewe created specifically for those aged 50 and up, but don't let the name fool you - these elders know how to have a good time and it was apparent at their grand bal on Friday evening.
Next up was the Krewe of Centaur's grand bal on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Shreveport Convention Center. The Grand Bal XXXI theme "A Million Dreams: A Big Top Spectacular" was inspired by the 2017 film The Greatest Showman starring Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron, Michelle Williams and Zendaya.
The big top, black tie affair had music by the band Groove Factor and had the krewe members dressed to impress for a night at the circus led by ringmaster Ed Walsh. The Krewe of Centaur has been around since 1991 with goals to build a better community and pursue good family fun.
