Nighttime Russian attack on south: Ukrainian defenders shoot down 19 Shahed drones and 11 Kalibr missiles, but there are strikes

The Ukrainian Defence Forces shot down 11 Kalibr missiles and 19 Shahed drones launched by the Russians on the night of 24-25 September, the Odesa marine terminal building was damaged by a strike, and a fire was extinguished in the terminal hotel building.

Quote from Humeniuk: "Both a massive and combined attack (of the Russians – ed.) took place last night. 19 Shahed attack drones were launched, and all of them were destroyed by the air defence forces."

Details: Humeniuk said the Russians also launched 12 Kalibr cruise missiles, two of which were shot down over Mykolaiv Oblast and Kirovohrad Oblast.

"It was very powerful and difficult combat work. Unfortunately, as a result of this work, private residential buildings were damaged by wreckage, grass caught fire, and, unfortunately, there was a strike," Humeniuk said.

Oleh Kiper, Head of Odesa Oblast Military Administration, reported that the port infrastructure was under attack. "A fire broke out in a non-residential high-rise building in the city of Odesa. It was promptly extinguished," he said.

Kiper reported that damage to a warehouse and a private residential building in the Odesa district had been recorded.

One civilian was also injured in Odesa as a result of the blast wave. The woman was injured by shrapnel and is currently receiving all the necessary assistance in a local hospital.

Update: Later, the Defence Forces of Ukraine’s South reported that during the night, the Russians targeted 19 Shahed-136/131 attack drones and 2 Oniks supersonic missiles at Odesa Oblast.

Quote: "Unfortunately, the enemy insidiously hit the port infrastructure. The marine terminal in Odesa was significantly damaged, a fire broke out in the building of the terminal hotel, which has not been functioning for several years. Firefighters quickly extinguished it. Oniks missiles destroyed grain storage facilities. But people were not injured," the report says.

Also, as a result of falling debris during combat operations, the warehouse buildings belonging to a business and a private residential building in the suburbs of Odesa were damaged and caught fire. Grass in open areas caught fire.

The fires were extinguished. There were no casualties.

The blast waves broke the glass in several houses, one civilian woman was injured and received medical assistance.

Background:

  • On the night of 24-25 September, the Air Force reported the possible launch of Kalibr cruise missiles and Shahed drones from the Black Sea, as well as Oniks supersonic anti-ship missiles towards Odesa Oblast. Large-scale air-raid warnings were issued, and later the all-clear was given.
