Jul. 6—Peach Jam and Nike Nationals will be closed to the general public this year.
Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) said in a statement that it has implemented new health and safety protocols for its participants, but are excited to return to South Carolina for the tournament this month.
"Nike EYBL appreciates the continued support of the North Augusta community," the statement said. "...we aim to return to the traditional EYBL/Peach Jam format with fans in 2022."
Rick Meyer, director of Parks, Recreation and Tourism for the city of North Augusta, knows how much the community enjoys this event each year.
"It's unfortunate that this year's event will not be open to the general public as the fans have always been a big part of the electric atmosphere inside the Riverview Park Activities Center during the Peach Jam," Meyer said. "But the economic impact for our community and the CSRA will still be very strong with the number of teams and college coaches coming to town. The consecutive weeks plus the return of the Nike Nationals Girls' event should go a long way to filling up area hotels and bringing business to area restaurants for our out of town guests."
The EYBL qualifier event will be held from July 13-20 with the Peach Jam tournament following from July 20-25 at Riverview Park.
ESPN will televise some games during the duration of the tournament.
