Nikki Miller to lead Gahanna-Jefferson's Chapelfield Elementary School
The next principal of Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools’ Chapelfield Elementary School has been named – Nikki Miller, current principal of Columbus Torah Academy’s lower school.
The school board voted unanimously May 19 to hire Miller as principal effective Aug. 1 at an annual salary of $114,773. Benefits information, including insurance plans, pensions and other compensation, was not available as of May 23.
Superintendent Steve Barrett said Miller has experience in many curriculum instructional strategies currently used at G-J.
“She has led professional development for teams of teachers in data-driven instruction,” he said. “She is well versed in Ohio Learning Standards and components of reading instruction through Fundations, a phonics and phonemic awareness program currently used in our elementary schools.”
He said she has also has implemented the Multi-Tiered System of Supports process to meet students’ academic, emotional and behavioral needs, as well as creating Ohio Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports programs to encourage positive behavioral outcomes and community building among students.
“Nikki has built meaningful relationships with students, staff and parents throughout her career to create positive results for students,” Barrett said. “She will be an asset to our Gahanna-Jefferson community.”
Miller, who has 15 years of experience in education as a principal, was selected from among 56 candidates who had applied for the position, according to a May 20 news release.
“I look forward to working with the faculty, staff and parent community to meet the needs of every student,” Miller said. “I am eager to serve and be part of the family at Chapelfield Elementary School.”
She has a bachelor’s degree from the College of Wooster and a master’s degree in education from the University of California, Los Angeles. She also has a master’s degree in educational leadership from the University of Arizona.
Miller replaces Tom Bates, who’s retiring July 31.
