CANTON − A 39-year-old woman accused of attempted first-degree murder in Broward County, Florida, was arrested in Nimishillen Township Wednesday and booked into the Stark County Jail, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

Cherie A. Goss, 39, who, according to court records in Stark County and Broward County, has lived at a home on Rue Helena Street in Nimishillen Township; and in North Lauderdale, Florida; Lauderhill, Florida, and Margate, Florida, the last several years, is awaiting a hearing on whether she should be extradited to Florida.

The Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended Goss in the 8800 block of Rue Helena Street. Investigators tracked her to that location after hearing she had fled Florida for Ohio.

"The strong relationships we have with our law enforcement partners made our community a safer place today," Stark County Sheriff George Maier said in a prepared statement. "Without these partnerships and our dedicated officers, a dangerous fugitive would still be on the streets of Stark County. I hope this is the first step in providing justice for the victims in this case.”

Goss is expected to appear before Stark County Common Pleas Judge Kristin Farmer for an extradition hearing on the morning of May 19. A staffer at the Stark County Prosecutor's office, which is expected to seek Goss' extradition to Florida, said Thursday her office would not be releasing any information about the case until paperwork is filed with the court on May 19.

The Broward County Sheriff's Office filed the attempted charges against Goss early last month, according to the U.S. Marshals Service, which did not provide specifics about the case. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshals Service referred questions about the circumstances of Goss' case to the Broward County Sheriff's office.

The Canton Repository has submitted a public records request to the Broward County Sheriff's office for documents related to the charges filed against Goss. Documents related to the attempted murder charge have not yet apparently appeared on the Broward County Clerk of the Courts public website as of Thursday.

A Broward County Sheriff's office spokeswoman said Thursday a records request would have to be filed to get a copy of the warrant seeking Goss' arrest. The spokeswoman said she had no additional information at that time about the case to release.
