Nine area boys earn basketball All-Ohio honors

COLUMBUS ― Nine boys basketball players from the area earned All-Ohio honors for the 2022-23 season from the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association this week.

Leading the way was River Valley's 6-foot-4 senior forward Carson Myers who was a third-team selection in Division II.

He averaged 19.9 points, 10.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists while adding 20 steals and 19 blocks this season. He shot 55 percent on 2-pointers and 73 percent on free throws, making 101 from the line. He also made 31 3-pointers on 30 percent shooting.

Myers was named first-team All-Mid Ohio Athletic Conference, first-team All-District 11 and first-team All-Central District, plus was District 11 Player of the Year.

Also making All-Ohio from River Valley was Carson Smith, a 6-4 junior guard and now two-time All-Ohioan who was honorable mention this season.

Smith put up 15.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals, while shooting 50 percent 2-pointers, 34 percent on 3-pointers with and area-best 63 makes and 66 percent on foul shots. He was first-team MOAC, first-team District 11 and second-team Central District.

Another two-time All-Ohio is Pleasant's 6-foot junior guard Trey Booker as he moved up to special mention in Division III after averaging 20.3 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and one steal. He shot 46 percent on 2-pointers, 39 percent on threes with 36 makes and 84 percent of free throws. He was first-team MOAC, first-team District 11 and first-team Central District.

Two others from Marion County earned All-Ohio honorable mention: Marion Harding's 6-1 junior guard Marquis Long and Elgin's 6-2 senior forward Isaac Dillon.

Long, who did it in Division I, put up 16.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 2.1 steals, while shooting 48 percent inside the arc, 29 percent behind it on 21 makes and 63 percent at the foul line. He was first-team MOAC, first-team District 11 and honorable mention Central District.

Dillon, who did it in Division III, produced 16.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.8 steals on 51 percent shooting from the field, 21 percent shooting on 3-pointers with nine makes, 65 percent shooting at the line. He was first-team Northwest Central Conference, first-team District 11 and second-team Central District.

Grant Bentley, a 6-2 junior guard at Northmor, was special mention in Division IV after averaging 17.8 points, 3.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.7 steals. He connected on 59 percent of his 2-pointers, 42 percent of his 3-pointers on 54 makes and 74 percent on his foul shots. He was first-team KMAC, first-team District 11 and first-team Central District.

A second Golden Knight made All-Ohio as 6-1 sophomore guard Jax Wenger was an honorable mention pick. He averaged 14.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 2.1 steals with 53 percent shooting inside the arc, 28 percent behind it on 27 makes and 57 percent at the stripe. He was second-team KMAC, second-team District 11 and second-team Central District.

Mount Gilead's Matthew Bland, a 6-foot senior guard, was honorable mention in Division III. He recorded 20.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals. He shot 42 percent overall and 30 percent on threes with 57 makes and 70 percent on foul shots. He was KMAC Player of the Year, first-team KMAC, first-team District 11 and second-team Central District.

Also making honorable mention in Division III was North Union's 6-4 junior guard/forward Max Parish who averaged 17.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 3.3 steals. He shot 52 percent overall, 27 percent on 3-pointers with 15 makes and 68 percent on free throws. He was first-team Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division and second-team Central District.
