Nine third-inning runs take Tigers over Wolverines

Jun. 23—GREENFIELD — Lenox (14-6) took a 10-run home victory on the road Thursday as they topped Nodaway Valley (6-12) 13-3 in Pride of Iowa play.

The Tigers couldn't find a groove in the first two innings with only seven plate appearances.

The Wolverines got to work right away, Boston DeVault hitting a double to right field before a single by Paul Berg and a double by Jase Davidson gave DeVault the first score of the night.

The tables turned in the third inning, starting with a single from sophomore Gabe Funk.

Consecutive singles by Xavier Adamson, Carter Reed and Dawson Evans sent Funk home to tie the score.

With no outs on the board, senior Samson Adams was walked and Brody Brokaw and Walon Cook each had singles to allow Adamson, Reed and Evans home for runs.

Trenton Beck's deep hit was caught, but Adams tagged third and made it home to increase the score to 5-1.

Back to bat for the second time in the third, Funk hit a double and Adamson connected with a single to score three more runs, Brokaw, Cook and Funk scoring.

Adamson found his second run of the inning, stealing home on a wild pitch for a 9-1 lead heading into the fourth inning.

The Tigers defense picked up right where the offense left off, not allowing a Wolverine base appearance in the third.

Lenox senior Keigan Kitzman hit a double, following with stealing third base and home on separate wild pitches.

Nodaway Valley's Tyson Ross slid to second on a narrow double before being sent home on a single from Parker Foster.

Pitching for the Tigers was Reed, striking out eight batters and allowing three runs.

DeVault and Harris pitched for Nodaway Valley.

The Wolverines had another run in the fifth, but couldn't match the Tigers' three more runs.

Lenox returns to action tonight hosting Southwest Valley.

Nodaway Valley travels to Mount Ayr tonight.
