Nineteen Ukrainian soldiers of the 128th Separate Mountain-Assault Transcarpathian Brigade have been killed after a Russian air strike on Nov. 3.

The soldiers were killed while participating in an award ceremony at their base near the front in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.

“The best of our soldiers have fallen... We express our sincere condolences to their families and promise to avenge our brothers a hundredfold,” the brigade announced in a press release.

Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has ordered an investigation; President Volodymyr Zelenskyyhas described the incident as a “tragedy that could have been avoided.”

A criminal case has been launched to determine possible criminal liability.

The 128th Brigade, headquartered in Mukachevo, Zakarpattia Oblast, has been actively involved in combat operations in eastern Ukraine since 2014.
