GHENT, WV (WVNS) – Nintendo fans greeted the morning with the company of a Nintendo Direct on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

The direct was a showcasing of what Nintendo partners were offering on the switch for this year. Though these are not the only games we will see on the console this year, this was the first direct of 2024, setting the stage for what is to come through the remainder of the year.

Though the direct did not offer much in the way of information on larger titles like Princess Peach: Showtime or any upcoming Pokémon games (which would likely be introduced in a Pokémon Presents rather than a Nintendo Direct), we did get to see some other titles with some equally as enthusiastic fans!

The direct included a slew of announcements but let’s go over just a few.

The Monster Hunter franchise has a dedicated and passionate fan base. The series offers a myriad of monsters to battle and a collection of weapons that players can choose from which allows for a more customizable gaming experience. Fans of the franchise weren’t left without something to look forward to today as Monster Hunter Stories was announced to be hitting the switch this summer. Monster Hunter Stories was originally a 3DS game with the newest installment, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, having been on the switch originally. Though Monster Hunter Stories is an older title remastered for the switch, there are some new elements to this version such as voice acting and a museum to look at art and listen to music.

Unlike the traditional Monster Hunter games, in Monster Hunter Stories, you play as a “rider” rather than a “hunter” which means you will be able to befriend and ride your favorite monsters from the franchise like a tigrex, nargacuga, or a rathalos.

Grounded is also making its way to switch. The game was previously available on Xbox and PC, but Nintendo gamers can have their turn at it on April 16th, 2024. The game sees the player fighting off massive bugs and building objects to help with survival after their character is shrunken down. The game offers online and cross-platform co-op, so the new players will have plenty of opportunities to play with friends who already own the title.

Another title that was talked about and that fans have been waiting for news on is Fantasy Life i: The Girl Who Steals Time. The previous Fantasy Life game offered the fun ability to not only be combat based classes as you played through the game, but to try out other roles too. You could decide to be a tailor, a carpenter, or even a cook.

In total, players could explore twelve different classes. The newest installment in the franchise aims to “transcend time” as it offers a time travel element into the mix. The player will use this ability paired with the skills they gain from the many classes they can explore to reestablish their island home.

GAMING: Pokémon Presents announced

Fans have eagerly been awaiting a date for this one since last year and the February 21, 2024 Nintendo Direct finally provided that, letting players know that the title will be dropping on October 10, 2024.

Of course, many other titles were announced during the direct, so if you were waiting on something specific, you should definitely check out the full presentation on the Nintendo of America YouTube page.

It is also incredibly likely (though not set in stone) that more switch titles will be announced during the Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2024, so be sure to tune in if you still have not found that perfect title to look forward to in 2024.
