Sales on video games happen all the time, but one thing you rarely see are first-party Nintendo games — titles like from the Mario and Zelda series, Animal Crossing and so on — discounted. Nintendo never lowers its prices, because its games are that good. Luckily, retailers like Amazon are always willing to help you save a few bucks, and you can snag some of the best Nintendo Switch titles now for up to 25 percent off.
Shipping for all of these titles is of course, free, but it's also worth signing up for Amazon Prime if you haven't already — members get great deals on video games, as well as access to movies, music and more. Grab yourself a free 30-day trial membership right here.
'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild'
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is considered by many to be the best Switch title, and the best Zelda game ever — and its Amazon reviews reflect that, with over 38,000 five-star raves. This reviewer called it a “must-have to Zelda fans and new gamers alike,” praising its “beautiful graphics and excellent gameplay.” And this parent loved “the freedom of being able to explore such a large, rich, intricate and gorgeous world.” Usually this epic adventure would run you $60, but right now it’s a friendlier $40.
'Super Mario Odyssey'
Also high up in the rankings is Super Mario Odyssey, which has the titular plumber exploring a variety of far-flung worlds. There’s always something new and exciting just around the corner in this game, and Amazon reviewers gave it over 23,000 five-star ratings. The reviews are enthusiastic, with one player calling it the “the most complete, best all-around game in the franchise.” He loved the graphics and said the “the story is fun, the worlds are unique and well-designed, and there are hidden levels you can unlock if you get to a certain point. You can easily spend over 100 hours on this game if you're trying to find all the moons.” This stellar game is currently 23 percent off, dropping the price from $60 down to $46.
'Mario Kart 8 Deluxe'
If you’re looking for something the whole family can play together, you can’t go wrong with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Up to four players can participate at once, the kart customization is fun, and there’s a variety of race speeds so folks who are new at the game don’t have to feel outclassed. "Really great gaming experience," said one reviewer. "Smooth as butter, great music, fun sound effects, very immersive. We've come a long way from Kart 64."He goes on to say that Mario Kart 8 made him feel like a kid again and helped with his stress — and he loves being able to play with his nieces and nephews. This one is currently on sale for $47, a 21 percent discount.
'Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit'
While the Mario Kart games are famous for tracks like Rainbow Road, you can now add your living room to that list of courses with Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit. This game includes a physical toy kart that you guide around your home using your Nintendo Switch, dodging shoes and books on your floor along with virtual obstacles like squid ink and ghosts. A single kart normally costs $100 but right now you can grab Mario for $75, or his younger brother Luigi for only $70! And you don’t have to be a kid or young adult to appreciate it — at least one reviewer has been playing video games at home since the ‘70s, and he loved everything about Mario Kart Live. He says the camera works great and getting it connected to your system is easy, and “setting up the race track is a blast.” He highly recommends this product to “anyone who loves Mario Kart and track creation.”
'The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD'
Another great Zelda title on sale is Skyward Sword HD. It was originally released on the Wii a decade ago, so why not rediscover it in high definition like over 5,000 Amazon reviewers have? This player actually preordered the game, something he rarely does, and said it has “charm, a good story, beautiful art and overall just feels really polished.” And most of the reviews were happy with the revamped control scheme — not everyone is a fan of motion controls, but one reviewer said the new control scheme is “perfect.”
'WarioWare: Get It Together!'
Even the newest Nintendo games get in on the sale business. You can grab the brand-new WarioWare: Get It Together! for $3 off. The WarioWare titles are silly, madcap collections of mini-games that anyone can play — I used to bring the Wii version to family gatherings all the time. I haven’t gotten to this one yet, but one reviewer said it “looks, feels, and plays like the rest of them with new exciting elements and more replay-ability then ever.” And another player said it’s “a good addition to party-game nights.” Snag it right now for just $47.
'Mario Party Superstars'
Mario Party Superstars isn’t even out yet, but you can still save a bit of money when you preorder. It’s normally $60, but you can save $3 on a title that, if Mario history is any guide, will be great for the whole family to enjoy together. Mario Party games are basically board games you play on the screen, and they’re incredibly unpredictable — you can go from worst to first in a single turn. The diverse number of mini games ensures that there’s something for every player to enjoy, from kids to parents to grandparents.
'Animal Crossing: New Horizons'
It’s not a Mario or Zelda game, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that Animal Crossing: New Horizons is also available for a 15 percent discount. It’s a relaxing game where you build your own island paradise populated by cute animals. Players went absolutely wild for it last year. I know I certainly did, and reviewers on Amazon loved it, giving it a 4.9 out of 5 rating. It’s the first video game this player ever bought, and they now look “forward to it every single day.” Even a year after its release, I feel the same way.
The reviews quoted above reflect the most recent versions at the time of publication.
