Three-and-a-half years since the untimely death of Nipsey Hussle, the custody battle between the late rapper’s family and his ex-girlfriend over the former couple’s daughter is still ongoing.

In the wake of his death in March 2019, Hussle’s older brother, Sam Asghedom, was chosen by the court to be the administrator of the late rapper’s estate and is liable for all business matters. According to Radar Online, Asghedom reveals that all of his brother’s matters have been resolved but one — the Asghedom family and Hussle’s ex, Tanisha Foster’s, fight for custody of 13-year-old Emani Dior Asghedom.

Although mediation has been scheduled, there has been no solution to the issue. Sam Asghedom says the reason the case is still pending is that Foster is not letting up on getting primary guardianship according to documents obtained by RadarOnline.com.

Although mediation has been scheduled, there has been no solution to the issue. He says the reason the case is still pending is that Foster is not letting up on getting primary guardianship of Emani.

In 2019 following Nipsey’s death, Asghedom and his family felt Foster was unfit to provide a solid lifestyle and home environment for Emani. After going to court, the judge agreed and approved for Asghedom and his sister, Sam Smith, to be Emani’s legal guardians.  According to Radar, Foster did not initially agree to the custody agreement but eventually accepted them due to her “financial limitations” at the time.

However, with the court’s approval came certain guidelines that Foster claims weren’t upheld, and instead, documents filed by Foster accuse the family of using “their financial position and influence to disregard their priorities by controlling the desires of Emani and Tanisha by withholding financial assistance and reducing visitation.”

Foster has requested for the court to give her custody and she’s fine with hiring a “neutral experience financial planner” to be in charge of her daughter’s $2 million inheritance.

“There are no circumstances or events in my life that would disqualify me from regaining my exclusive role as Emani’s parent,” Foster says. “There is no longer any need for guardianship. Emani routinely asks me when are she and I going to be able to live together. She longs to be with me as her mother. I am begging the court to terminate the existing guardianship.”

However, the Asghedom family questions Emani’s safety with Foster and also brings up accusations of substance abuse.

The family reminded the court that Foster admitted to substance abuse and alcohol usage in 2019, as confirmed by a Children’s Social Worker. Nipsey Hussle’s sister revealed to the court a time in May 2019 when Foster showed up at Emani’s school and was allegedly under the influence. Also the family pointed out that Foster has not been able to keep stable housing and has a pattern of eviction. She also refuses to provide a name of the boyfriend, or any person she lives with.

The decision is still hanging in the balance as they await the judge’s ruling. Both parties are expected back in court early next year.
