NIT 2023: What to know about National Invitational Tournament schedule, times, TV

The National Invitation Tournament, or NIT, had its selection show Sunday night with 32 teams set to compete in the postseason tournament.

Among those was Bradley (25-9), which earned the bid after winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season championship.

When are the next rounds of the 2023 NIT?

Played every year since 1938 — except in 2020 — the NIT has been known for games being played on college campuses in the opening rounds instead of a neutral site, with the semifinal and final round at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Now, the semis and final are in Las Vegas.

  • First round: March 14-15, campus sites

  • Second round: March 18-19, campus sites

  • Quarterfinals: March 21-22, campus sites

  • Semifinals: March 28, Orleans Arena, Las Vegas

  • Championship: March 30, Orleans Arena, Las Vegas

How are teams selected to the 2023 NIT?

The NIT selects teams that were short of making the NCAA Tournament. Teams that also won their conference regular season title but didn't win their conference tournament are given automatic berths.

Aside from Bradley, teams that were automatically eligible for the tournament were: Eastern Washington, UC Irvine, Hofstra, Youngstown State, Yale, Morehead State, Southern Miss, Alcorn State and Utah Valley.

What was different for the 2023 NIT?

For the 2023 edition, the NIT seeded the top 16 teams, with the top four teams placed in each quadrant of the bracket. The remaining 16 teams were placed "geographically where possible," according to the NIT.
