Jan. 4—"Hope springs eternal in the human breast: Man never is, but always to be blest. The soul, uneasy and confined from home, Rests and expatiates in a life to come ..." Alexander Pope poem, "An Essay on Man."

A new year nearly always signifies hope for the coming months — a time to put the past behind and look forward to the future.

We especially appreciate when the cold unpredictable weather of winter moves on and the world is filled with new green grass, budding trees and flowers, and warmer temperatures that allows us to get outside and enjoy God's creation.

Many people have declined on making New Year's Resolutions — there are so few that are kept, even two months after the new year has arrived. But we should all make an everlasting resolution to show kindness and love to all people — not just during the holidays or New Year's holiday, but throughout the year.

As humans, we are born with qualities such as anger, frustration and lack of understanding of why things happen without any seemingly logical reason. But we are also born with love, faith and kindness and those qualities often carry us through difficult times we face along our journey of life.

Life is unpredictable and we must carry the hope of a better day in our hearts and souls each and every day.

As 2024 is upon us, I wish for health, happiness, peace and comfort for everyone.

Happy New Year!
