After five-and-a-half decades, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band still sounds "Forever Young" on a new rendition of the fatherly Bob Dylan tune.

The song comes off "Dirt Does Dylan," an upcoming 10-track album where the Grammy-winning Americana band takes on music originally penned by Minnesota's famed folk songsmith. The album hits shelves and streaming services May 20.

On "Forever Young" — a song where a parent shares a loving message to his child —Nitty Gritty bandleader Jeff Hanna splits vocal duties with his son, Jaime Hanna as the band transforms this Dylan staple into an Americana foot-stomper. Nitty Gritty filmed a feel-good music video at new Madison venue Eastside Bowl (including a few rounds of family bowling, of course).

"Our goal was to take a song that most are familiar with as a ballad and turn it into an up-tempo romp," Jeff Hanna said in a statement. "It was so cool to get to sing this song with my son."

"Dirt Does Dylan" includes Hanna and company covering “Girl From the North Country," "I Shall Be Released," featuring roots duo Larkin Poe, "Don’t Think Twice, It’s All Right" and " The Times They Are A-Changin’," an all-star collaboration with Rosanne Cash, Jason Isbell, Steve Earle and War and Treaty that Nitty Gritty originally released in 2021.
