On average, New Jersey elementary school teachers make $75,150 annually, while secondary school teachers make $79,460. Overall, teachers in New Jersey make about $8,000 more per year than the national average.
Some teachers in New Jersey have an annual income of more than $100,000, such as educators in the Hackensack and Atlantic City school districts, according to the statistics. New Jersey also has the fifth highest cost of living in the United States, according to Forbes' calculation of U.S. Census data.
California leads the ranking with an average annual salary of $90,470 for elementary school teachers and $92,960 for secondary school teachers.
