Is your NJ town getting federal dollars for a special project?

Communities throughout Central Jersey in the 7th Congressional District may be in line for an early Christmas if the House of Representatives approves money in appropriation bills for Community Project Funding requested by Rep. Thomas Kean Jr.

Kean's requests for 13 projects totaling $24 million across the six counties in his district have been included in the upcoming appropriation bills.

The Community Project Funding allows each congressman to submit 15 projects for consideration.

Only two of the projects requested by Kean failed to make it into the appropriation bills – $2 million for a new police headquarters in Flemington and $6.5 million for a new police headquarters in Phillipsburg.

The approved projects are:

Bridgewater

$4 million to refurbish Camp Cromwell on Vosseller Avenue.

Somerville

$3.7 million to renovate the Somerville YMCA on North Bridge Street to build preschool classrooms meeting state standards.

Raritan Borough

$2.2 million to renovate the present municipal building for use solely by the borough's police department and municipal court. Improvements will include an overhaul of the elevator system, HVAC replacement, window replacement, ADA barrier free space, sally port, holding cells, evidence rooms and court facilities and community policing outreach space.
