NM State Fair now accepting livestock entries

ALBUQUERQUE – The New Mexico State Fair is now accepting entries for the 2022 Livestock Shows & Sale, which is scheduled to take place during the run of the fair, September 8-18, in the north end of the State Fairgrounds. New Mexico 4-H and FFA members eligible for competition are encouraged to submit their entries before the deadline set for August 1.

“The Livestock Shows and Sale is one of the most beloved events that takes place during the New Mexico State Fair,” said State Fair General Manager Dan Mourning. “These kids work unbelievably hard all year long for the chance to show at our Fair. It is always an honor to watch them participate in the deep rooted New Mexican tradition of competing at the New Mexico State Fair.”

A week of in-person livestock shows will kick off on Saturday, September 10. The Junior Livestock Shows will run daily through Thursday, September 15, culminating in the much-anticipated Junior Livestock Sale on Friday, September 16. The sale will take place inside the Indoor Horse Arena.

In addition to the time-honored shows that have been at the Fair for decades, there will also bea few new shows added to this year’s schedule, including an all-new Wether Doe show. Othernew updates junior exhibitors can expect at this year’s Fair are:

  • The addition of two more goat sales slots will be open in the Jr. Livestock Sale, bringingthe total to 10 goats sold in the sale

  • The top 5 animals will be awarded Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, ThirdOverall, Fourth Overall and Fifth Overall in the Junior Beef, Junior Swine, Junior Sheepand Junior Goat Shows.
