NMU Gender and Sexuality Studies promotes inclusion with annual Gender Fair
MARQUETTE, Mich. (WJMN) – The Northern Center at Northern Michigan University was a place with inclusion in mind on Friday at the NMU Gender Fair.
Since 2017, the Gender and Sexuality Studies program at NMU has been putting this on to foster diversity and inclusion throughout campus and the Marquette community. There are resources from both NMU and the community on hand to meet with people.
“We do it to bring together a bunch of people to talk, to have discussion about gender and sexuality that normally wouldn’t come together and have that conversation,” said Paige Meisel, NMU Gender and Sexuality Studies.
“I think it provides a really nice, safe space, especially for people on campus, that the community around them is allowing this space to be had and showing up and showing their support for them on campus and off campus,” added Sydney Romps, NMU Gender and Sexuality Studies.
“It’s really important for everybody, regardless of who are you, how you identify or what spaces to occupy,” said Emma Van Orsdel, NMU Gender and Sexuality Studies. “To know that you are loved and valued, and that’s a big reason why we hold this event. Just tell everybody who might need that, that you are loved, you are valued here in Marquette and on campus.”
