After No. 1 Arizona lost, here’s where KU basketball sits in new AP Top 25 rankings

There’s a new No. 1 in the Associated Press men’s basketball Top 25 this week.

It’s Purdue (10-1), which moved from No. 3 to 1 following a 92-84 victory over previous No. 1 Arizona on Saturday in Indianapolis. Preseason No. 1 Kansas (10-1), which was No. 2 a week ago, stayed in the runner-up spot despite Saturday’s 75-71 victory at Indiana.

Purdue received 48 of 62 first-place votes. KU received six first-place votes, while No. 3 Houston had the other eight No. 1 votes.

No. 1 Purdue, No. 2 KU and No. 3 Houston (11-0) are followed by No. 4 Arizona (8-1), No. 5 UConn (10-1), No. 6 Marquette (9-2), No. 7 Oklahoma (10-0), No. 8 Tennessee (8-3), No. 9 Kentucky (8-2) and No. 10 Baylor (9-1) to complete the top 10.

North Carolina is No. 11 followed by Creighton, Illinois, Florida Atlantic, Gonzaga, Colorado State, BYU, Clemson, Texas, James Madison, Duke, Virginia, Memphis, Wisconsin and Mississippi.

Others receiving votes are: Miami, Auburn, Colorado, Utah, Iowa State, Ohio State, Michigan State, TCU, Texas A&M, San Diego State, Northwestern, Providence, Alabama, Dayton, Nevada, New Mexico, Grand Canyon, Washington, Saint Joseph’s, South Carolina and Mississippi State.

KU will meet Yale at 7 p.m., Friday, at Allen Fieldhouse.
