GRAND CHUTE – Jackson Chourio is headed to Wisconsin.

The No. 1 prospect for the Milwaukee Brewers has been promoted to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and will join the team for Tuesday’s game at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.

The Timber Rattlers are scheduled to play the Cedar Rapids Kernels at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday in a Midwest League game.

Chourio, an 18-year-old outfielder from Venezuela, batted .325 with 12 home runs and 47 RBI in 61 games with the Brewers’ low Class-A affiliate in Carolina prior to Sunday’s promotion.

"Jackson has played very well in Carolina and has dominated the league to an extent," Brewers vice president of minor-league operations Tom Flanagan said.  "We felt that the time was right to challenge him at a new level.  He understands that he still has plenty of work to do, and we’re confident that he’s ready for this next step with Wisconsin."

According to the Brewers, Chourio will be 9 months younger than the next youngest player in High-A when he appears in a game for the Timber Rattlers. He was the youngest player in the Carolina League.

MLB Pipeline ranks Chourio as the No. 39 prospect in baseball, and Baseball America lists him at No. 43.

Milwaukee signed Chourio for a reported $1.9 million in January 2021 when he was 16.

With Wisconsin, Chourio will be joining an already talented outfield featuring Joe Gray Jr., Tristan Peters and others.

Chourio was one of three Brewers minor-leaguers invited to take part in the All-Star Futures Game in Los Angeles last week along with fellow outfielder Joey Wiemer and left-hander Antoine Kelly.
