No. 10 Mediapolis rolls past Durant to move into second place in district

The Mediapolis High School football team took another step forward in its quest to earn at least one home playoff game.

Anthony Isley rushed for 133 yards and one touchdown and quarterback Ben Egan rushed for 86 yards and three scores to lead the 10th-ranked Bulldogs to a 28-8 Class 1A District 5 victory over Durant Friday night at the Mediapolis Athletic Complex.

The win gave the Bulldogs a firm grip on the second spot in the district behind third-ranked West Branch heading into next week's regular-season finale against winless Louisa-Muscatine.

Isley, a University of Northern Iowa recruit, also made 12 tackles, while Afton Wonderlich recovered a fumble and Jackson Hutcheson intercepted a pass for the Bulldogs.

NEW LONDON 58, LONE TREE 21: Senior quarterback Dom Lopez completed all seven of his pass attempts for 97 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for another 74 yards and a pair of scores in the Tigers' rout of the Lions in a Class 8-Man District 6 game at New London.

The win secures second place in the district for the Tigers, who lost their first two games of the season.

Boden Pickle rushed for 149 yards on 13 carries and scored two touchdowns for the Tigers, while Blaise Porter rushed for 61 yards on just seven carries and scored a pair of touchdowns. Reean Seberg rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown and caught two passes for 43 yards and a score. Evan Reed hauled in an 18-yard scoring strike from Lopez.

New London closes the regular season with a trip to Victor to play HLV on Oct. 14.

CENTRAL LEE 17, EDDYVILLE-BLAKESBURG-FREMONT: The Hawks won their first home game in three years and secured a playoff birth with a victory over the Rockets.

Cory Jones completed 8-of-15 passes for 104 yards, including a 40-yard scoring toss to Blake Bergman. Jones also rushed for 34 yards and intercepted two passes.

Chase Johnson rushed for 101 yards on 15 carries and scored on a 15-yard run.

Grant Myhre rushed for 39 yards.

Ayden Krehbile had a 30-yard field goal.

Hunter Gregory led the Central Lee defense with 11 tackles, while Kayden Calfee intercepted a pass and Brody Fuller recovered a fumble.

COLUMBUS 57, NORTH CEDAR 0: The Wildcats remained undefeated and set up a showdown with eighth-ranked Alburnett next week for the district title with a rout of the Knights in a Class A District 5 win at Stanwood.

Jeff Hoback threw for 26 yards, rushed for 73 yards and a score and intercepted a pass for the Wildcats.

Kaden Amigon rushed for 63 yards on just three carries and scored a touchdown. He also returned a kickoff 74 yards for a score.

Triston Miller rushed for 37 yards and a pair of scores, while Trenton Hoback rushed for 64 yards and two scores and Cole Storm gained 29 yards and scored a touchdown.

Rey Resendez-Rodriguez intercepted a pass for the Wildcats.

Columbus will host Alburnett at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 at Columbus Junction.

NO. 3 WACO 43, WINFIELD-MOUNT UNION 0: The Warriors held the Wolves to just 123 yards of offense in a Class 8-Man District 6 whitewashing at Wayland.

Simeon Reichenbach rushed for 162 yards, including scoring runs of nine, three and 38 yards for the Warriors. Isaac Oswald scored on a four-year run and connected with Oleh Shtefanchuk on scoring tosses of 20 and 14 yards.

Louden Huisenga rushed for 56 yards for the Warriors.

Ty Egli registered a safety for WACO, which travels to Thornburg to play Tri-County in the regular-season finale Oct. 14.

NO. 8 ALBURNETT 52, WAPELLO 7: The Indians could muster just 45 yards of offense in a Class A District 5 game at Alburnett.

Jake Gustison returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown for Wapello's lone score.

KNOXVILLE 34, ILLINI WEST 0: Gannon Bergmann completed 4-of-12 passes for 24 yards and was intercepted once in the Chargers' non-conference loss at Knoxville, Illinois.

The Chargers rushed for just 10 yards in the contest.
