Another top-20 world-ranked player has announced he’ll join the field next week for the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte.

Collin Morikawa, the world’s No. 13-ranked player, has committed to the event. It will be his first appearance in the Wells Fargo Championship, although he was a member of the U.S. team that won the Presidents Cup last fall at the Quail Hollow Club.

Morrikawa, 26, has won five PGA events, including the 2020 PGA Championship and the 2021 British Open.

He started his PGA Tour career by making the cut 22 straight times — second only to the 25 consecutive cuts made by Tiger Woods.

Morrikawa’s presence in Charlotte means 19 of the world’s top 25 golfers have announced they’ll be in the field at Quail Hollow.

Players have until 5 p.m. Saturday to commit.

The top two ranked players, Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, have not announced whether they’ll play in the Wells Fargo Championship. But the field includes Rory McIlroy (No. 3), Patrick Cantlay (4), Xander Schauffele (5), Matt Fitzpatrick (6), and Max Homa (7).

Tournament officials also announced Wednesday that two members of the APGA Tour, which is for black and other minority golfers, have received sponsor exemptions to play at Quail Hollow next week.

Marcus Byrd, 25, a four-time winner on the APGA Tour, and Quinn Riley, 22, of Raleigh, will be in the field at Charlotte.

Riley was the first black golfer in the Duke University program and ranked No. 1 on the APGA Tour in 2021-22.

“This is a dream come true for me, and I’m extremely appreciative of Wells Fargo giving me the opportunity to play a PGA Tour event in my home state of North Carolina,” Riley said.

Practice rounds are set for Monday, with pro-am events Tuesday and Wednesday.

The tournament’s first round will be next Thursday.
