No. 2 GVSU football remains unbeaten with decisive win over Wayne State
DETROIT - The Grand Valley State football team remained unbeaten with a 48-9 win over Wayne State on Saturday night on the road.
The Lakers (4-0) opened the scoring on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Cade Peterson to Jahdae Walker with 8:26 to go in the first quarter.
Wayne State answered with a 37-yard field goal from Saugatuck graduate Griffin Milovanski.
But it was mostly all Lakers after that.
Tariq Rush scored on a 59-yard runeterson then found Jaylon Tillman for a 50-yard touchdown strike as GVSU led 21-3 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Reid scored on runs of 2 and 7 yards to put the game away.
In the fourth quarter, Jack Provencher scored on a 13-yard run. JT Popp followed with an interception return 45 yards for a touchdown to cap the scoring.
Reid carried the ball 17 times for 140 yards.
Peterson was 9-for-17 passing for 179 yards and two touchdowns. Tillman caught five passes for 99 yards.
Defensively, Damonte McCurdy and Abe Swanson each totaled six tackles.
Josh Kulka was 25-for-43 passing for 306 yards for Wayne State (1-3).
