The Ohio State Buckeyes (7-0, 4-0 in Big Ten) travel to Happy Valley to play Penn State in a marque Big Ten Conference showdown on "Fox's Big Noon Kickoff."

This is just the second road game of the season for the Buckeyes, who beat Michigan State 49-20 in East Lansing on Oct. 8. The matchup is also just the second game where OSU has played a ranked opponent as No. 13 Penn State (6-1, 3-1) is coming off a 45-17 win at home over Minnesota and has just one loss on the year, to Michigan in Ann Arbor.

Buckeyes coach Ryan Day mulled out loud on what C.J. Stroud's stats were in the fourth quarter. The answer? He was 6-for-8 for 128 yards and a touchdown.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day stiff-armed reporters seeking injury updates. Regarding running back Miyan Williams, Day said, "I don't know. I honestly don't know."

Later pressed for news on Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Day answered, "I don't have an update right now."

Rushing for 27 yards to start Penn State's most recent drive Kaytron Allen gave his team a boost, but OSU's defense finally buckled down to hold the Nittany Lions to a 44-yard field goal.

On the play after J.T. Tuimoloau's fumble recovery, Buckeyes quarterback C.J. Stroud found Cade Stover, who plowed his way into the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown catch.

J.T. Tuimoloau helps force another Penn State turnover

Already having batted a ball that Zach Harrison intercepted and picked off a Sean Clifford pass, Ohio State's J.T. Tuimoloau again spearheaded an OSU takeaway. He forced a Clifford fumble and then grabbed the ball to give the Buckeyes a short field to work with.

Tuimoloau has six tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, a pick, a pass breakup and a forced fumble.

TreVeyon Henderson rushes 41 yards for score | Score: Ohio State 23, Penn State 21

After being bottled up most of the afternoon, on his 12th carry of the day, Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson found space and ran for 41 yards and a touchdown. Again, Marvin Harrison helped set up the score. His 21-yard catch started the drive.

OSU's Jakailin Johnson took a pass interference call, and even more costly, Ohio State lined up over the center on an unsuccessful Penn State field goal attempt that gave the Nittany Lions another shot on fourth down. Tyler Warren then made a four-yard catch to give Penn State a first down to keep the drive alive. Eventually, Kaytron Allen would punch in into the end zone with a short run.

One of the big plays for Penn State to set up the score was a 26-yard Parker Washington catch. On the day Washington has 10 catches for 170 yards and a TD.

The Nittany Lions are outgaining Ohio State's offense 360-263.

Ohio State's Marvin Harrison Jr. has seven catches for 136 yards, including a 16-yard catch at the start of OSU's most recent drive that helped drive the Buckeyes into position for Noah Ruggles to make a 40-yard field goal. However, OSU couldn't make their way to the end zone, partly because Ohio State is now 2 for 10 on third down.

Ohio State still struggling to get the running game going, especially with Miyan Williams out

OSU is averaging just 1.8 yards per carry today, a big reason that the Buckeyes are 2 for 9 on third down.

OSU running back Miyan Williams is no longer wearing pads on the Buckeyes' sideline. FOX television says his day is done due to a knee injury, and Williams has ice on his knee. However, he also appears to have a cast on his hand.

OSU had the ball with six seconds left until halftime and planned to take a shot at the end zone before, if still necessary, attempting a field goal. But a C.J. Stroud fumble ran out the clock.

Although Ohio State's C.J. Stroud had passes of 23 and 9 yards on OSU's most recent drive, the Buckeyes also lost 20 yards on penalties and a pass play to TreVeyon Henderson went for minus-5 yards. So OSU had to settle for a Noah Ruggles 37-yard field goal.

Miyan Williams' return is questionable

Per 97.1 The Fan, Miyan Williams has suffered a hand injury, which required X-rays. His return today is very much a question according to the radio broadcast.

He threw two early interceptions, but Penn State quarterback Sean Clifford has completed 6 of his last 7 pass attempts, and with 180 yards and two touchdowns (to Parker Washington and most recently KeAndre Lambert-Smith), has guided the Nittany Lions to the lead.

After catching a Sean Clifford pass, Penn State's Parker Washington spun out of the grasp of Ohio State linebacker Tanner McCalister and eluded defensive back Jakailin Johnson to score a 58-yard touchdown. Washington has four catches for 87 yards today.

Ohio State's Miyan Williams hurt?

At the end of the first quarter, Ohio State running back Miyan Williams landed hard on the first-down marker and had to be tended to by OSU's athletic trainers before walking off under his own power.

J.T. Tuimoloau gives Ohio State the ball again

While J.T. Tuimoloau forced a Penn State turnover on the previous drive by getting penetration, this time, he hung back, jumped a route and outmuscled a somewhat lackadaisical effort by Kaytron Allen to steal the ball. Nittany Lions quarterback Sean Clifford now has three completions and two interceptions.

Ohio State can't convert with short field

Although Ohio State started their most recent drive at the Penn State 39, the Buckeyes came away without points. TreVeyon Henderson had a carry that gained no ground. C.J. Stroud had two completions for just four combined yards. And Noah Ruggles missed a 53-yard field goal attempt that was both short and right.

Zach Harrison steps up again

Ohio State has recorded an interception in six straight games. This pick ends up in the arms of Zach Harrison, who continues a stretch of strong play for the Buckeyes, but he was the beneficiary of J.T. Tuimoloau getting pressure on Sean Clifford and batting the ball up into the air.

Each ESPN's "College GameDay" analyst, including guest picker Stephen A. Smith, picked Ohio State to beat Penn State. But after former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit's answer, saying it would be a close game, Smith marveled at what his colleague had to say about Penn State.

"When he knows in his heart someone is going to get blown out, he still has something nice to say," Smith said of Herbstreit. "I want to be him when I grow up."

Earlier in the show, when discussing Ohio State vs. Penn State, Herbstreit was succinct about how he thought Saturday afternoon's game would go.

"First half energy, crowd, close," Herbstreit said. "Second half, too much talent."

Chris Fallica picked Ohio State, wasn't comfortable with the 15.5-point spread, while ESPN analyst and former Georgia linebacker David Pollack picked Ohio State.

"I got the Buckeyes," Pollack said. "Large."

Urban Meyer also picked the Buckeyes to win big against Penn State, beating the Nittany Lions 45-20, while Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush and Brady Quinn each have a Ohio State win. Quinn picked the Buckeyes 38-31, which would be Ohio State's first game decided by less than 10 points.

James Franklin: ‘The triggerman’ is what makes Ohio State go

For Ohio State, it all starts with quarterback C.J. Stroud, according to Penn State coach James Franklin.

“At the end of the day, their triggerman is what makes them go,” Franklin said. “He’s the one that distributes the ball (to) all those different playmakers and does a great job doing it.

“He’s leading the Heisman race for a reason.”

Stroud leads an Ohio State offense that is averaging 49.6 points and 517.4 yards per game: second- and fourth-best in college football, respectively.

Penn State has the No. 20 scoring defense in the country, allowing 18.86 points per game, while allowing 373 yards per game — 63rd-best in college football — and 5.14 yards per play.

Beaver Stadium to hold ‘stripe out’ for Penn State vs. Ohio State 

Instead of a “White Out,” Beaver Stadium will hold a “Stripe Out” when Ohio State comes to town Saturday afternoon.

Penn State already held its annual “White Out” in 2022, beating Minnesota 45-17 Oct. 22, the game the Buckeyes have historically faced when they come to town. Instead, Ohio State will face a crowd coordinated in either all blue or all white depending on the section they sit in.

Even with Ohio State going on the road for only the second time in 2022, the Buckeyes remain a distinct favorite against Penn State.

Ohio State heads into kickoff as a 15.5-point favorite against Penn State, coming in with a 4-2-1 record against the spread through the first seven games of the season.

FanDuel and Draft Kings sportsbooks each have the Nittany Lions as 14.5-point underdogs against the Buckeyes.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is doing things for Ohio State in 2022 that his NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver father calls "surreal."

Ohio State has dominated its recent history with Penn State

Ohio State’s recent history with Penn State has been a bit one-sided as of late.

The Buckeyes have won nine of their last 10 meetings with the Nittany Lions, including four of their last five games at Beaver Stadium.

The Buckeyes have averaged 36.9 points in each of their wins against the Nittany Lions during this run, never scoring less than 27 points. Penn State has averaged 22.3 points in its nine losses, scoring more than 30 points only once in 2017.

After Ohio State’s 2016 loss on the road against Penn State, the Buckeyes have won five straight against the Nittany Lions, outscoring their opponent 165-130 in those five games. Three of the last five games have been decided by less than 10 points between Ohio State and Penn State.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba out for Ohio State vs. Penn State

Ohio State wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is back on the injury list ahead of the Buckeyes' trip to Beaver Stadium.

After returning for 22 of the team's 64 snaps against Iowa, recording one catch on seven yards, Smith-Njigba left the game with a slight limp in the second quarter after trying for a catch downfield from quarterback C.J. Stroud and did not return.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day said postgame Smith-Njigba was on a "pitch count" of about 20 snaps against the Hawkeyes.
