Three days after dropping its first District 29-2A game, the Mason High School girls basketball team rebounded with a resounding win at home over San Saba Friday.

No. 25 Mason, which first appeared in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Top 25 Monday only to fall to Harper on the road Tuesday, answered with a 54-41 win over No. 15 San Saba.

The win throws the district standings into a three-way tie between Mason, San Saba and Harper, which also won Friday. The Cowgirls improved to 18-8 overall and 5-1 in district play. San Saba, which beat Harper earlier in the season, fell to 21-6, 5-1.

Harper, ranked No. 17, beat No. 23 Goldthwaite 47-44, its second Top 25 opponent this week after toppling Mason on Tuesday.

Mason jumped out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead behind three 3-point goals by Tristin Keller and one by Kylie Cockerham. The Cowgirls clung to a 23-17 halftime lead after the Lady Dillos clamped down defensively in the second quarter.

The Cowgirls extended their lead in the third, outscoring San Saba 18-7 to take a 41-24 lead going into halftime.

The physical game featured 38 free throw attempts combined. Mason hit 14-of-18 while San Saba managed 12-of-20.

The two teams have a long history of battling for the district title. The last four games before Friday had been decided by no more than two points, with Mason winning two and San Saba winning two.

Keller led the Cowgirls with 13 points, most of it coming in the first half. Sterling Smith scored nine while Lauren Olson and Avery Brooks each added eight.

Nojemi Martinez led the Lady Dillos with 10 points. Jaedah Lambert had eight points while Landri Glover added seven.

Mason hosts Center Point on Tuesday while San Saba must regroup to face Goldthwaite on the road.
