No. 3 Windsor baseball suffers 1st loss of season

May 18—The Windsor High baseball team was ranked No. 3 in the New Haven Register/GameTimeCT poll released Monday.

With top-ranked Amity Regional getting blown out by Xavier, an impressive win at Southington Tuesday night could have had the Warriors on the rise again.

It was not to be.

Brady Aylward's solo home run in the fourth inning capped a rally from a three-run deficit as the Blue Knights topped visiting Windsor 4-3 in a CCC interdivisional game at Fontana Field.

Ryan Cramer's two-run single gave the Warriors (15-1) a 3-0 second-inning lead, Southington, the top team in the also receiving votes part of the poll, got even in the third and took the lead in the fourth on Aylward's shot.

Windsor threatened in the final two innings but could not break through as the Blue Knights (15-2) won their 11 straight game. Vincent Borghese was the winning pitcher while Mason Glickman took the loss.

The Warriors entertain Enfield today.

MANCHESTER 4, MORGAN 0. Mason Cycenas-Heimer pitched a three-hitter in Manchester's non-league win in Clinton. He walked three and struck out six.

Mark Osorio had two hits and drove in a run for the Red Hawks (14-4). Eli Briscoe added an RBI school Morgan School is 7-13.

Manchester is at Farmington today.

SOMERS 11, STAFFORD 7. Cody Palazzesi had four hits including two doubles, scored four runs and drove in two as Somers defeated host Stafford in NCCC action.

The Spartans (15-4) finish conference play at 9-2, one game behind champion Ellington.

Kaede Wood added three hits and two RBIs for Somers, which took a 6-1 second-inning lead. Stafford (11-8) got within 7-5 after four but the Spartans answered with a three-run fifth.

Alex Grenier had two doubles and two RBIs while Adam Connors had two hits and two RBIs for Somers. Wood was the winning pitcher

Ryan Gilully paced the Bulldogs with three hits including a triple and two runs scored. Colin Gudeman chipped in two hits while Josh Tuller contributed a two-run single.

Both teams play Thursday Stafford is at Ellington while Somers host Lyman Memorial.

CANTON 9, EAST WINDSOR 1. Rob Dlubac pitched six innings of seven-hit ball in Canton's NCCC road win. He allowed a run with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Warriors (10-8) took the lead in the second inning and made it 7-0 with a three-run fifth. Jack Biskupisk had two hits.

Ryan Lee had two hits and scored the lone run for the Panthers (5-12). Shane Ritchie had the RBI. Makhi Mendez had two hits.

East Windsor must win its final three games to be assured a spot in the Class S state tournament. The Panthers host Bolton today and MLC Friday before closing the regular season at Weaver Monday.

H-K 7, ELLINGTON 5. Haddam-Killingworth took advantage of nine walks and five errors to post a non-league win at Ellington. The Cougars (13-6) erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the second inning and two in the third. Ellington (14-4) got no closer than the final margin.

Evan Robbins and Josh Einsiedel each had two hits for the NCCC champion Knights. Will Lally pitched well in relief, working four innings. Darren Zahner played well defensively.

Ellington entertains Stafford Thursday.

CHENEY TECH 9, BOLTON 3. Spencer Johnson scattered nine hits as Cheney Tech recorded the non-league road win. He struck out 11.

The Beavers (9-10) used a four-run fourth inning to take command with Dylan Connaughton and Jack McLellan contributing key hits.

Elias Martinez and Ben Schaefer had two hits for Cheney Tech, which beat Bolton 16-10 in Manchester Thursday. Bryan Diehl had three hits for the Bulldogs (0-18). Darren DeGray and Patrick Frommer added two hits apiece.

Bolton is at East Windsor today before completing its season at home against MLC Monday. Cheney Tech wraps up the regular season Thursday when it hosts East Hartford.
