No. 3 Windsor holds on to beat Tolland in baseball

May 23—The Windsor High baseball team used a fast start to take a lead and held off Tolland at the end.

The third-ranked Warriors scored six runs in the first inning en route to building an eight-run lead and went on to defeat the visiting Eagles 9-5 Saturday at Barry Chasen Ballpark.

Jonathan Lattimer was 3-for-5 with two runs scored for Windsor (17-1), which led 9-1 before Tolland (12-6) made things interesting with a four-run fifth. Aiden Serrano added two hits including a two-run double while Frank Kula also had two hits. Mason Glickman was the winning pitcher, working six innings and striking out seven.

Jared Wilhelm had two hits for the Eagles while Evan Albert had a hat and scored twice.

Both teams return to action today with championships on the line. Windsor can clinch the CCC North title outright with a win over the Bloomfield/Bulkeley co-op at Colt Park in Hartford, while Tolland can capture the CCC East crown outright with a home victory over E.O. Smith.

ELLINGTON 12, WOODSTOCK 5. Cam Thomas' three-run homer keyed a five-run fourth inning that broke open a close game as NCCC champion Ellington earned a non-league win.

The Knights (14-4) never trailed with the fourth-inning outburst giving them an 11-4 lead.

Josh Einsiedel had four hits and three RBIs for Ellington. Darren Zahner was 3-for-3 with three runs scored. Ryan Delaney and Evan Robbins added two hits while Zac Killoran, returning from a knee injury suffered in Ellington's Class M playoff football game against Rockville, delivered a key pinch-hit.

Thomas was the winning pitcher with strong relief from Will Lally.

Woodstock completes its regular season at 12-8 and on a four-game losing streak.

Ellington plays a non-league home game against Portland today.

SUFFIELD 11, UNIVERSITY/CLASSICAL 1. Sam Beaudoin pitched a two-hitter and struck out 12 in host Suffield's five-inning non-league win at Kulas Field.

Nick Montermerlo drove in three runs for the Wildcats (10-8), who put the game away by scoring three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth. Nick Gomes had a double and scored three runs while Danny Jamrog doubled and scored twice.

The University/Classical Magnet co-op (11-6) had a five-game winning streak snapped.

Suffield concludes its regular season today when it hosts Civic Leadership.
